Cadet Leadership

We think you have incredible potential.

As a member in Valor we don’t think you got here by accident. God is doing something special in your life. Your life story is unique. No one else has experienced the things that you have. No one else came from the same family situation. No one else followed your same path to the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. We think that makes you special.

You can make an impact in Valor that no one else can make. You have unique strengths and passions that only you can contribute. We want to invite you to apply to be a part of Valor’s leadership community this next year.

Come Help Change the World

We truly believe that God is going to use Valor to change the world. We believe that it starts right here at The Citadel and won’t be stopped until it touches every corner of the globe. But it starts with you. Being a leader can be one of the best things that happens in your life. We want to invite you to apply and start the journey toward becoming the leader God wants you to be. This is your chance to be a part of something special. You’ll have an opportunity to invest your time in the lives of students all over campus. You’ll truly be a part of a movement of  Reaching,  Building, and Sending.

What Does a Valor Leader Do?

There are a variety of ways to serve in Valor this coming year. We’re trying to make adjustments in our structure so that we can have an even bigger impact on campus for God. Here are some of the ways that you could serve:

  • Valor Fox Hole Group Leader – Fox Hole leaders are responsible for caring for their Small Group. You’ll lead a group of people alongside a partner. You’ll share your faith a lot during the year and spend time helping grow your members into future leaders. This year FH leaders will be done differently, we’ll actually have multiple different types of FH groups that you could lead:
    • Freshmen Groups – Helping to create a fun and inviting community for members of the class of 2015!
    • Upperclassmen Groups – Continuing to help older Valor members grow in their faith and multiply their lives.
    • Student Organization Groups – Working specifically with cadets that are a part of other student activities (Summerall Guards, Rifle Legion, Pistol Team, Football Team, etc) to help them grow as leaders.
  • Valor Operations Team – The Valor Operations team is brand new this year. We’re realizing that we need specific people who are helping us take care of the administrative details that help Valor run smoothly. If you are an Operations Team member then you’ll meet every Sunday night as part of the Valor’s Leadership community. You won’t lead a Bible study, but instead will be focusing on your area of expertise. Here are the different positions you can apply for on the Operations Team:
    • External Affairs Coordinator – Helping Valor work together with other groups on campus like Campus Outreach, Religious Officers, Religious Reps, and others.
    • Event Coordinator – Working to help pull off events like Women’s Brunch, Fall Retreat, Exam Break Room.
    • Weekly Meeting Coordinator – Helping with everything related to our Thursday night meetings (Worship, emcees, sound equipment, special speaker topics).
    • Skit/Video Team Coordinator - Working with the skit team to do skits/videos for our meetings and other campus events.
    • Community Service Coordinator – Leading Valor to serve the community well.
    • Socials Coordinator – Helping us have fun in community by planning Friday Night Dinners, socials and fun activities.

What Does a Fox Hole Leader Do?

A Fox Hole Leader with Valor is committed to Reach, Build, Send. Each week you’ll be in a Bible Study where you can learn and grow in your relationship with God. Then on another nightyou’ll lead your FH group with your partner. This is really where the community in Valor is built. During the week you’ll spend time hanging out with your group members as well as taking opportunities to share your faith. (Don’t know how to share the Gospel? Afraid to share your faith? Don’t worry, we’ll help walk you through how to effectively share the gospel with people on campus. You’ll be doing it a lot.)

Expectations

Because of the need to have people of like mind working together, expectations have been developed for Bible Study (FH) Leaders. These standards are not intended to lead us to legalism, but to help a person develop Biblical habits which are invaluable. They help provide motivation to develop in areas which we sometimes find difficult.

These expectations are:

To be a Bible Study Leader you need to agree to the following expectations.

Because of the need to have people of like mind working together, expectations have been developed for Valor Leaders. These standards are not intended to lead us to legalism, but to help a person develop Biblical habits which are invaluable. They help provide motivation to develop in areas which we sometimes find difficult.

These expectations are:

1. Love Jesus.

2. Attend Valor every Tuesday.

3. Attend Leaders meetings.

4. Meet with the person who disciples you on a regular basis (weekly, bi-weekly)

5. Pursue your group members outside of Thursday night meetings.

6. Set an example in Godly living in and out of the barracks, on and off campus (ex. Not drinking if you are under 21, not getting drunk if you are older; no spending the night at someone of the opposite sex’s house; Having a Godly view of sexuality.

7. Be a Team Player and follow through on your commitment (We don’t want people to quit halfway through the year. A quarterback wouldn’t quit the team in the middle of a game.)

8. Do your best to attend Fall Retreat and Winter Conference (Fall Retreat is mandatory and Winter Conference is strongly suggested but not required)

9. Attend a mandatory leaders retreat the Saturday before school starts.

10. To commit to growing spiritually and academically.
